Our History

Early Life

Our beautifully converted 1928 Red Rattler Train Carriage was in service until 1991. Starting life at the Walsh Island Dockyards, at Newcastle, our classic carriage then became part of the train network that serviced Sydney before coming to Mudgee where it was bought by a couple who originally intended it for truck driver accommodation. She was then used by us as offices, tearoom, shower, and toilet, for our earth moving company.

Modern Day Accommodation

In 2020 we decided this grand old dame could be better appreciated and used for short stay accommodation and we moved her to our property at Windeyer where you will enjoy her today.

Other Artefacts

Another fascinating historical artefact on our property is the big steel door into the Silo Bar, which is actually a gaol door from the old Mudgee Lock Up, circa 1833. Notably, if you look carefully on the inside of the door, you can make out some names, presumably of prisoners, scratched into the old paintwork.
